CARE

While Katie g. Jewellery is made to be worn, we all need some TLC from time to time. Treat your piece well and it will be with you for a lifetime. We encourage you to celebrate the natural wear that your jewellery experiences; it is a sign that each piece is ever more personal to you.

GENERAL care instructions

  • Water will not harm your Katie g. Jewellery, however, with very delicate pieces, especially with gemstones, you should avoid chlorine and salt water where possible.

  • Pieces with set diamonds or gemstones should be checked yearly. Please see below for more information.

  • Solid gold pieces will keep their appearance forever, but sterling silver may tarnish (darken) if it is not worn regularly. This is further accelerated if stored in moist environments, such as bathrooms.

  • While we love this natural change that silver undergoes, if you wish to return a silver piece to its original finish, most silver baths or cloths available at any drugstore work very well. You are also welcome to book an appointment at our Atelier!

  • Avoid contact with household cleaning products, perfumes, and cosmetics as much as possible. Certain ingredients may harm your piece.

  • It is best to remove your jewellery during intense exercise as heavy impacts can cause damage.

CLEANING

  • Dirt, oil, and cosmetics can often leave your jewellery looking a little dull. If you can part with your piece for a day, we will professionally clean it free of charge in our Atelier.

  • Another great option is to use our professional deep cleaning kit!

  • Alternatively follow these steps:

  • Place your jewellery in a bowl of lukewarm water and add a few drops of PH neutral soap. It is important to not use any aggressive or abrasive cleaning products.

  • Let your piece(s) soak for a few minutes.

  • Remove the piece(s) from the solution and clean gently with a very soft toothbrush to remove any trapped dirt.

  • Rinse your jewellery with fresh water.

  • Pat dry with a soft cloth, ideally one that is lint-free or microfibre. If your piece contains stones, be particularly careful not to cause damage to the prongs that hold the stone.

GEMSTONES & DIAMONDS

Placing diamonds and gemstones on our Katie g. pieces is a process that requires precision and patience. It may not be visible to the naked eye, but daily wear can harm your jewellery. To maintain your pieces, we highly recommend you bring them in for a free annual deep clean and stone check.

Gold Plated Pieces

Our gold plated pieces are heavily plated over sterling silver yet naturally, the gold layer wears away over time. Our collection pieces which are offered in gold coating, rather than solid gold, have been carefully selected as their design permits for the coating to fade evenly. Gorgeous patinas will be revealed over time, however, we are happy to provide a re-plating service if and when you wish to restore your piece. To get a quote, please contact us!

Storage

To prevent tangling, chains can be gently coiled or hung from a hook or nail. The original boxes offer easy, safe storage. Alternatively, you can keep your jewellery in a larger box or soft fabric bag, but ideally, pieces should not touch when stored. Pay particular attention to how you store your diamonds; as the hardest gemstones, they are likely to scratch your other pieces, including other diamonds! For travel, we recommend jewellery rolls. Another option could be to wear your jewellery ALL the time - problem solved!

Last on first off

As a general rule be sure to put on your jewellery last, even after your perfume. Then, at the end of the day, take off your jewellery first before any other clothes such as pullovers. If you can turn this into a habit, your jewellery will not come into unnecessary contact with cosmetics or get caught while undressing.
